17th November 2015: Professor Yu Xiang invited Dr. Becker-Kurig-Straus and the patent law firm partner Dr. Alexander to visit the Chinese-German Institute of Intellectual Property at the School of Management at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. They gave a speech, titled "Patents in Europe Obtaining-Using-Enforcing". Professor Yu Xiang, director of the Institute of Intellectual Property, chaired as professor.

　　At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Yu Xiang introduced Dr. Alexander Straus’s study and work experience briefly, and welcomed him warmly. Afterwards, Dr. Straus introduced the European patent application, and the use of the compulsory license and other aspects of the European Patent development. He firstly gave an overview about Europe, the European Union and the European Patent Convention, as well as about the development process of each member state. Then, he explained in detail the application process of an European patent. After that, he clearly stated the definition of the European patent licensing system, the licensing risks faced by the European Patent and the compulsory licensing system. At the end of his lecture, he focused on the organization structure, functional scope and patent litigation of the European patent court. After the lecture a vivid discussion developed.
