The team of Chinese-German Institute for Intellectual Property attended the China-US Clean Energy Research Center (CERC) - 2016 ACTC Joint Meeting in Chengdu

  (Reporter: Yin Conghui) In the morning of October 11th, 2016, the U.S.-China Clean Energy Research Center (CERC) - 2016 ACTC Joint Meeting was held in the conference hall of Dongfang Boiler Group CO. Ltd. in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. More than 100 experts and scholars from China and U.S. gathered together to promote the development of clean coal technologies. The head of U.S.-China CERC and sub-inspector of the Department of International Cooperation of China’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) Mr. Cai Jianing, the deputy director of Division of Affairs Department of International Cooperation of China’s MOST Ms. Lv Jia, the dean of Huaneng Clean Energy Research Institute (CERI), and the U.S. director of CERC and the member of the Department of Energy of U.S. Dr. Robert Marlay, attended the opening ceremony. Also present at the meeting were 20 Chinese representative groups, such as: Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Huaneng CERI, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as 16 American representative units, including: West Virginia University, University of Kentucky, Lawrence Livermore Natl. Lab, Los Alamos Natl. Lab, World Resource Institute (WRI). The opening ceremony was hosted by Prof. Zheng Chuguang, the Chinese director of the ACTC, from HUST.

  The U.S. director, Mr. James Wood and Chinese director, Prof. Zheng Chuguang, were the representatives for the American and Chinese side of CERC-ACTC, respectively. They presented an annual report. The two directors introduced their progress of the past one year and joint work plan of the next five years, the second stage of CERC-ACTC. They proposed general ideas that demonstration projects were the fundamental key to technical progress, that new technologies were the direction for future development, and that enhancing cooperation was the important support for the improving together during the Phase II of the ACTC. Five theme parallel meetings were arranged to discuss the joint work plan and progress, to give time for detailed discussions about advanced power generation, large demonstration and knowledge sharing, CO2 utilization and storage, advanced conversion and systems analysis, and modeling. As the leader of the Chinese Intellectual Property (IP) project and the director of Chinese IP Experts Group of the CERC, as well as being the director of Chinese-German Institute for Intellectual Property (CGIIP) of School of Management, HUST, Prof. YU Xiang, led the members of CGIIP to participate in this meeting and to engage in the discussion.

  The meeting provided a good platform for deepening the U.S.-China cooperation in the field of energy, which can be of great significance in furthering development of U.S.-China clean energy cooperation.
