Education and Research Cooperation with Heidelberg University of Applied Sciences, Germany

May 8, 2010: A dialogue on Chinese-German cooperation in the field of Education and Research was held in School of Management, Huazhong University of Science & Technology, China. The Chinese representatives included Hao Li, Director, International Exchange Office; Hailin Yu; Vice Dean, School of International Education, Jinlong Zhang; Dean, School of Management, Lirong Long; Assistant Dean, Prof. Xiang Yu; Dean of Chinese-German Institute of Intellectual Property, Prof. Xiao Dong Yuan; and Dr. Shan Liu. While Prof. Carolin Sutter; Dean, and, Prof. Peter Baumeister; Vice Dean, School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, and, Professor Katrin Blasek; Principal, International Affairs represented Heidelberg University of Applied Sciences, Germany.
Li Hao introduced the background of HUST and its ongoing developments, after which, Jinlong Zhang delivered speech to welcome the German guests and presented souvenirs to them. Thereafter, Prof. Carolin Sutter introduced Heidelberg University of Applied Sciences, and Prof. Peter Baumeister explained about Universität and Fachhochschule in Germany. Prof. Katrin Blasek highlighted the purpose of the visit to enhance student and teacher exchange, and, research cooperation between the two sides.


Hailin Yu welcomed Masters and Doctoral candidates from German colleges to study in HUST, and gave a briefing about the scholarship program being offered by HUST. And, Prof. Lirong Long introduced research and education at the School of Management.
The second half of the dialogue was presided by Prof. Xiang Yu wherein both sides sincere opinions regarding educational exchange programs between China and Germany including the problem of language barrier, defining the scholarship criteria and amount, levels and fields of students and the issue of internships. Concludingly, a memorandum of understanding was signed by both sides as a starting point for better cooperation between the two.
