Chinese-German Institute for Intellectual Property Participated in the Study of Intellectual Property Protection in U.S.-China Clean Energy Cooperation

On September 23, 2011, U.S.-China Clean Energy Research Center Steering Committee Meeting was held in Beijing. At the meeting, Mr. Steven Chu, US Energy Secretary pointed out that the signing of Technology Management Plan (TMP) was a marked progress of the alliance’s work. He made special mention of Prof. Xiang YU and Shan Liu, who had made important contribution to the signing of TMP for advanced coal technology.

In order to ensure the program running smoothly , members need to consider the benefit-sharing and management of Intellectual Property Rights in the process of cooperation. Prof. Xiang Yu, Director of Chinese-German Institute of Intellectual Property, teacher Shan Liu and doctoral candidate Rentao Feng, Liguo Luo, Di Lu, Jie Deng have taken part in the program.

According to the U.S.-China Clean Energy Research Center protocol on cooperation, joint projects will not start without the signing of TMP. After several rounds of negotiations, TMP was eventually finalized on July 22. It was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and the U.S. Department of Energy and signed on August 19 in the United States Morgantown West Virginia University. On September 23, 2011, The U. S. and China held the TMP signing ceremony.
