The Chinese-German Institute for Intellectual Property held its first Symposium of October in 666 classrooms of School of Management, on Oct. 26, 2012. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Xiang Yu, director of the Chinese-German Institute for Intellectual Property.

First, Prof. Xiang Yu made a brief introduction of the basic situation when he was invited by central group of CCP, HUST to give a special report that entitled "The role of universities in the national innovation system and how can it run effectively”. The report focused on analyzing the development mode of the Office of Technology Transfer (OTL) in MIT, and pointed out a major opportunity for development of intellectual property disciplines combined with Chinas economic environment and the development of the school. Professor Yu Xiang pointed out that intellectual property professionals must have the ability contained the following aspects: (1) Analysis capability, fast learning, careful, responsible. (2) Adequate profound background of scientific research and technology. (3) Excellent English skills. (4) Versed in patent law (domestic and international). (5) Excellent communication and negotiating skills. He also motivated the teachers and students of the institute to study hard and improve their comprehensive ability constantly.

Then, Zhong Jing Heng, 2012 doctoral student of the Chinese-German Institute for Intellectual Property, gave a report on the theme of the importance of intellectual property rights combined with his work experience in the Netac Group. Dr. Zhong Jing heng graduated from Zhongshan University in Mathematical Statistics in 1992 with a bachelors degree; graduated from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2005 with a masters degree in business administration, and currently he is the director and vice president of Shenzhen Netac Technology Co., Ltd. He shared a wonderful story of Netac’s development in the past 12 years, and pointed out that the Netac witnessed the previous Chinese companies from paying royalties to foreign companies for a long time to gradually win respect, even to acquire more patents income through cooperation with overseas and safeguarding legal rights, to create and conduct a model of IT industry to protect intellectual property rights through leading the patent operators. By multifaceted authorized cooperation and judicial and administrative remedies, the status of Netac as the company that owns the intellectual property rights and technology will be further consolidated and respect.

Finally professor Yu made a summary about Dr. Zhong Jingheng’s report, and gave a greater expectation on the students to later work and study, emphasized the importance of foreign language learning for further study and scientific research.
