On June 20th, vice governor of Hubei province, Guo Shenglian and vice mayor of Wuhan,Xing Zaozhong came to survey the 3D printing technology research and development and industrialization, meeting with the Patent Pope of German and the former director of German Max Planck Institute of intellectual property, competition law and tax law ,Joseph Straus.

Deputy secretary general of Hubei provincial government, Huang Guowei, , Deputy Director-General of provincial department of science and technology , Pengquan, Deputy Director-General of Intellectual Property office of Hubei province, ShuZhengRong , and Deputy Director of Intellectual Property Office of Wuhan, Chen Baoguo, also participated in the investigation.

Guo Shenglian and his parties inspected the rapid manufacturing center, state key laboratory of material forming and mould technology, listening to the report made by Vice secretary of party, deputy dean, also the director of rapid manufacturing center, professor Shi Yusheng , learning the working principles of 3D printing technology, workflow, performance index and technical characteristics, etc., focusing on the industrialization of 3D printing work and watched the 3D printer and print outs. Guo Shenglian pointed out that Huazhong University of Science and Technology owns edge-cutting printing technology in China, the central task at present is completing the work of industrialization, identifying industry positioning and making Industrial Planning

Then, Guo Shenglian met with Prof. Joseph Straus at the foreign guests reception room of No.1 Building. Guo Shenglian fervently welcomed the arrival of Prof. Straus, and introduced the work and achievements in the field of intellectual property of Wuhan city in recent years. He also said, Prof. Straus was one of the world famous intellectual property experts, and we eagerly hoped he could offer guidance and help for Wuhan’s effort to protect intellectual property rights.

Straus said, since he became the honorary professor of Huazhong University of Science and Technology on May 2005, he came to Wuhan to give lectures many times, which made him have a profound understanding of the rapid economic and social development of Wuhan city. He also said the patent application was very important, but it was more important to turn the patents into products . Therefore, the patents from the scientific research institution needed to be combined with the enterprises’ needs so as to maximize the benefits of patent achievements . He was willing to make a contribution to the intellectual property work of Wuhan city, Hubei province as well as Huazhong University of Science and Technology .
