Prof. Joseph Straus and Mr. Ugresen Maistry from Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property and Competition Law visited the School of Management

On June 19, 2013, at the invitation of Prof. Yu Xiang, the director of China-German Institute for Intellectual Property, Prof. Joseph Straus and Mr. Ugresen Maistry from German Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property and Competition Law, visited the School of Management of Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

On the morning of 19th, under the host of Prof. Yu Xiang, two lectures were given by Mr. Ugresen Maistry for the teachers and students of the school of Management in the Room 121, which were titled ”National IP Management in South Africa with Special Focus on the South African IP from Publicly Financed Research Act, 2008 and National IP Management Office (NIPMO) and The Teaching of IP Law -- Experiences from South Africa and Europe”. In the afternoon, Prof. Joseph Straus gave a lecture titled “The Role of Academic Community in Modern Innovation Ecosystem” for the teachers and students in the same place and on the morning of 20th, he gave another lecture called “The Scope of Protection in Plant Related Patents -- From a European Perspective” in the Room 126.

Prof. Joseph Straus, a law professor of the University of Munich and Ljubljana University, is the former director of Germany Munich Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property and Competition law and an emeritus member of science for life. Mr. Straus has written a lot of works in the field of intellectual property law, especially the field of biotechnology inventions protection, and enjoyed a fame as the "patent Pope" in the world. Prof. Straus was employed as a visiting professor for the law school of a series of international universities such as George Washington University , also the honorary professor of Tongji University, and the honorary president of intellectual property school of Tongji University. He was employed as an honorary professor of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, as well as the honorary director of China-German Institute for Intellectual Property, school of Management.

Mr. Ugresen Maistry, whose research field is intellectual property management and patent law, works at the Law school of South Africa University and is a visiting researcher of Germany Munich Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property and Competition Law.
