On September 24, the 2022 Artificial Intelligence and Judicial Big Data International Conference was held at HUST, Wuhan. Professor Yu Xiang was invited to present a keynote speech at the opening ceremony. Experts from prestigious universities and research institutes from China, the U.S., the U.K., Japan, Netherlands, Italy, etc., were invited to deliver speeches on artificial intelligence (hereafter AI) and legal regime.

Professor Yu Xiang presented a keynote speech on "The Challenges of Artificial Intelligence to Patent and Copyright Law and its Countermeasures", in which he pointed out that in the current era of weak AI, the current patent and copyright laws should still encourage the inventions and works of AI; the right holders should still be natural or legal persons, rather than AI per se. In the future era of strong AI, it should be feasible that AI inventions or works belong to public property. Meanwhile, granting the corresponding developers "data processing rights" as a new neighboring right, giving AI creations new sui generis rights, or changing the primary rights in patent and copyright law are all possible solutions.
