Dr. Peter Ganea from Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property Visited School of Management

April 24th, 2008: Dr. Peter Ganea, Head, East Asia Department, Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property of Germany visited HUST on an invitation from the Dept. of Management of Technology & Intellectual Property Rights, and, the Chinese-German Institute for Intellectual Property.

Dr. Peter Ganea delivered a speech titled Enforcing Compliance with the TRIPS Enforcement Provisions in the School of Management. The lecture was hosted by Prof. Yu Xiang, Director, Chinese-German Institute for Intellectual Property. Dr. Peter Ganea decoded Article 41 of TRIPs, commented on the controversy over IP enforcement in China, and, proposed that sufficient quantitative data should be utilized and comparative analysis of TRIPs should be made to evaluate the quality and efficiency of IP enforcement in China and cope with US and WTO complaints against China. After his speech, Dr. Peter invited questions and answered earnestly.

Other than the teachers and students from within HUST, the audience included students from the Economics and Management School, Wuhan University, and, the School of Management, Wuhan University of Technology.

Several teachers and students from HUST have successively been appointed at the German Max Planck Institute as visiting scholars since Prof. Straus, Head, Max Planck Institute, was appointed as an honorary professor of HUST. Dr. Peter Ganea’s visit will provide a base for stronger cooperation between Max Planck Institute and HUST.
