Prof. Joseph Straus, famous German intellectual property expert, was employed as honorary professor of Huazhong University of Science and Technology and honorary chief of Chinese-German IP Institute, school of management on 9th May, 2005.

After the ceremony of employment, Prof. Joseph Straus lectured on The New Circumstances of IP Protection in the World and its Developing Tendency and Hotspots.

On the afternoon, Prof. Joseph Straus discussed with some teachers and students of the school of management on questions relevant to IP.

At the 7 p.m., 10th May, as the last stop of the academic journey at our university, hosted by Prof. Yu Xiang, Prof. Joseph Straus lectured on Patent Protection in EU for Biotechnology and Computer Software implemented invention. This report mainly introduced legislation, practice and theory of patent protection of biotechnology and computer software in the EU and pointed out the existed key problems.
