On Oct. 18, 2012, Prof. Xiang YU, the professor of Chinese-German Institute for Intellectual Property and the director of International Exchange Center, made a lecture with the title of “The role of universities in the national innovation system and how can it run effectively” to the central groups of the CCP,HUST. Prof. Gang Lu, Prof. Pei Gen Li and other school leaders also attended the meeting.
Prof. Xiang YU considered that technology transfer is an important aspect when we talk about how can the universities serves society. He detailed the workflow, transfer performance and income distribution of the technology transfer institutions in MIT, Stanford and Japan, and made a comparison with our country. He made a comprehensive analysis of the characteristics and problems of our way of university technology transfer. He pointed out that technology transfer in our country is highly dependent on the role of government and university administration, but the role of specialized technology intermediary service organizations did not play, we also need more professional technology transfer institutions.
Prof. Xiang YU made several suggestions about university how to service the national innovation strategy: in the process of knowledge creation, we should make patent information analysis and then develop strategies on technology innovation; in the process of knowledge transfer, based on the protection of intellectual property, we should establish a powerful technology transfer institutions and find effective ways to transform knowledge into capital; in the process of personnel training, we should not only teach students how to create knowledge but also should teach them how to protect intellectual property and how to make technology transfer. After the end of the special report, Prof. Xiang YU also answered questions from the participants in a warm atmosphere.
