2013 Sino-German Symposium on “Cross Border Cooperative Innovation and Intellectual Property” held at HUST

From Apr. 19th to 20th, the 2013 Sino-German Symposium on “Cross Border Cooperative Innovation and Intellectual Property” was held at the School of Management, HUST. Scholars discussed about the issues of promoting cross border cooperation and the research on intellectual property.

On the morning of Apr. 20th, Commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office Mr. Tian Lipu, Vice Governor of Hubei Province Mr. Guo Shenglian and HUST President Prof. Li Peigen attended the opening ceremony.

During the ceremony, President Li stated that in the increasingly competitive international environment, sci. & tech. innovation and intellectual property would become the core competitiveness, and the symposium would bring more opportunities for the development of the discipline of intellectual property, research on technology transfer, international exchanges of intellectual property talents, and hi-tech cooperative innovation.

Mr. Tian stated that the development of China’s intellectual property was in its initial stage but still was dynamic and promising. As a guest professor of HUST, he hoped that our university could make more contributions for research on intellectual property.

Mr. Guo welcomed the scholars and introduced Hubeis exploratory experience in perfecting intellectual property system, transforming technological results and protecting intellectual property.

Prof. Jürgen SCHADE from Amberg-Weiden University of Applied Sciences delivered a lecture titled “the Strategy of Strengthening International Cooperation on Intellectual Property”. He emphasized that international cooperation of intellectual property field had to respect every participating country. The developing countries should make related patent laws to adjust themselves to the international standards. He also hoped that there could be further cooperation between China and Germany to actively protect traditional intellectual property and genetic intellectual property.

This symposium included six parts, namely the intellectual property in international trade, technology transfer and intellectual property, technology management in cross border cooperation and research, development of legislation related to patent law and technology transfer, the enforceability of intellectual property and typical examples of practicing cross border intellectual property cooperation. The symposium focused on international and regional cooperative research, the ownership, protection, utilization and management of intellectual property in joint technological innovation, etc.

Vice Dean of the School of Management Prof. Wang Zongjun hosted that opening ceremony.

Former director of the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property and Competition Prof. Joseph Straus, Prof. Christoph Ann from the Technical University of Munich (TUM), director of the Chinese-German Institute for Intellectual Property of HUST Prof. Yu Xiang, Dr. Heike Strele from the Sino-German Center for Research Promotion and other world renowned scholars attended the symposium.

The 2013 Sino-German symposium was co-hosted by the School of Management, HUST and the Schol of Management, TUM and co-organized by the Chinese-German Institute for Intellectual Property, HUST, the Institute of Economic Law and Intellectual Property, TUM and the German Center for Research, HUST.
