On 24 May 2006, the State Intellectual Property Office of the Peoples Republic of China (hereinafter "SIPO") enacted new Guidelines for the Examination of Patent Applications (hereinafter Guidelines "2006") that entered into force on 1 July 2006. Chapter 9 of Part II (substantive examination) of the Guidelines 2006 deals with Applications for Inventions Involving Computer Programs (hereinafter "AIICP").
